Expectations

The Alexandria Singers hold rehearsals every Tuesday from 7:00 - 9:00 pm at the Lincolnia Senior Center. There is also one Saturday rehearsal each month from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm. Singers are expected to arrive on time and attend all rehearsals. Absences must be excused in order to perform. The group performs two concerts per year, one in December and one in June, with an additional week of rehearsals before the June Show. In preparation for the June concert, additional choreography rehearsals may be scheduled. In addition, other rehearsals may be scheduled as needed throughout the season. Non-mandatory sectional rehearsals for all voice parts are available and can be beneficial to attend if you miss a rehearsal.

Dues and Fees

Dues for the year (from Sept to June) are $100. Members having financial difficulty making dues payment on time will need to speak with the Membership Vice President to arrange a payment plan. Uniform fees and standards are broken down by performance season and will be available for purchase through the Uniform Coordinator. You will not be permitted to perform with the group until all dues and fee requirements are met.

Word of mouth from Singers about our shows is a very important marketing and outreach tool that helps us fill our auditorium. Therefore, each member is required to sell $100 worth of tickets to each of the major concerts. Additional fundraising opportunities are available to help offset this requirement if members wish to participate.

Music

Music is purchased new per season based on the director’s choice of a program. Members will need to purchase their own music, approximately between $25-30 per season. There is a standing “Repertoire” — pieces we use for the majority of concerts and events we perform throughout the year. As new members, you will be asked to purchase and learn these repertoire pieces in addition to the seasonal selections.
Since we rarely devote rehearsal time to the repertoire selections, a rehearsal CD is available for purchase from the group to aid members in learning these pieces. In addition most pieces for the Holiday concerts
are memorized and ALL music for the June concerts is memorized.

Attendance

No more than two rehearsals should be missed during the fall season and no more than three rehearsals in the spring. If you miss more than the allotted absences per season, it is up to the director’s discretion to allow you to perform in the concert. Singers should notify their section leader if they expect to be absent from a rehearsal and follow up with his/her section leader afterward to check on any information they may have missed. Attendance at all major concerts is required. In order to maintain the excellent reputation of our group, we want to ensure that every performance we give (be it large or small) is representative of the Alexandria Singers as a whole. Therefore, we strongly urge Singers to attend as many ad hoc performances as they can. Exceptions to these requirements should be discussed with your section leader who will request an exemption from the music director.
