Audition Information
When
arriving to an audition for the Alexandria Singers,
please follow posted signs to the audition room.
The Membership Vice President will greet you and
provide a basic orientation to answer any questions
you might have regarding the group. You will be
asked to complete an audition form (providing
basic contact information and details regarding
your musical background/experience).
The auditions are held with the Director, Assistant
Director, Accompanist, Choreographer (or their
designate), and the Membership VP present, and
consist of two segments: singing and choreography.
For the singing portion, you will be asked to
sing warm up scales, sight-read music, and sing
a prepared piece. Please bring the sheet music
with you. If you do not have a prepared piece,
the Director will
ask you to sing "My Country Tis of Thee,"
so that he can hear your voice with the piano.
For the choreography, you will be taught choreographed
moves to a song by the Dance Captain and asked
to repeat those movements. *Please note, the choreography
portion is typically done in groups rather than
one-on-one.
The audition process itself takes about 10-20
minutes. You will be notified by the Membership
VP within a week of your audition as to whether
or not you have been accepted as a member of the
Singers.
Feel free to download a copy of our Prospective
Member Fact Sheet. This provides answers to
many of the questions you probably have about
the group.
