January 2000
President's Corner

The holidays are over and our holiday concert was a success thanks to a great many people - but especially all of you who prepared for the performance and then told your friends, neighbors, and co-workers to come hear us. See the "Wrap-up" (at right) for more information on profit, attendance, etc.

Now it's time to work on the June Show. We have our theme, "And All That Jazz," show dates, and we have most of our music in hand. (See page 3 for the June Show concert order.) Because of the snowy weather, we've lost a couple of rehearsals - and winter isn't over yet. So, it's important to learn and memorize our music as quickly as possible - that means spending time outside of our regular Tuesday night rehearsals working on it. We need to know our parts and the words so we'll be ready to learn moves to production numbers more easily and spend a good part of our time "polishing" the show.

A good way to learn your parts is to attend sectional rehearsals. Your music captains are willing and able to play your parts so you can make recordings of them.

Swingin' Sleigh Ride Wrap-Up

The holiday concert was a big hit! We don't have our final profit figured to the penny since we still have a few outstanding bills to pay, but we've netted approximately $3,200. This figure is based on show ticket, raffle ticket, and program ad sales. Nice work, everyone!

We also received some terrific feedback from our audience. Everyone loved the choice of music and thoroughly enjoyed the program. Audience members were overheard saying they didn't want the concert to end, so we achieved every performers' ultimate goal: Leave 'em wanting more!

Early predictions of a sell-out came true. We collected 790 tickets. For a breakdown of who was in our audience and to learn the results of our audience survey, see page 2. The most interesting feedback: of the 460 people who turned in a survey, 328 of them learned about the concert from a Singer. That means we are our own best marketers. If we promote the show, they WILL come!! In fact, of the 460, 133 had never been to a Singers' concert before, so we are attracting new people to our shows.

Now that we've shown we can do it, let's plan to sell out the June Show, too. A big thank you to everyone for making the concert such a huge success!

Front Row Auditions
Our choreographer, Geri Geis, will be holding auditions for Front Row dancers on Tuesday, February 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the Lincolnia Center. Men and women interested in doing routines for the June Show that are more involved than the chorus moves are encouraged to audition.

Those wishing to try-out should prepare a two-minute routine to perform for the judges. Please bring a cassette tape or CD with your music. Geri and the judges will select dancers for each production number - every person who tries out may not be used in every number.

Rehearsals are on Thursdays from 8:30 - 10:30 p.m. in the dance studio at the Lee Recreational Center, 1108 Jefferson Street, Alexandria. If you have questions about Front Row or the auditions, see Kimberly Miles or Eva Malecki.
